This dishwasher might be a good choice for someone who owns a small kitchen, though we have to say, that for $750 dollars, there are numerous better choices out there.
If you have a tiny kitchen, or you don’t have the time nor the money to remodel your kitchen so that you can fit a built-in dishwasher in it, this doesn’t mean that you have to wash the dishes by hand. The best solution to your dilemma is a portable dishwasher. Such a dishwasher can easily be connected in 2-3 minutes. All you have to do is connect the power cord and the hose. Once you are done with the dishes, you can roll the dishwasher out of sight, because, as you might have guessed by now, a portable dishwasher is fitted with wheels. There are several such dishwashers on the market. What makes the Whirlpool WDP350PAAB Portable Dishwasher stand out in front of its competitors is its Energy Star qualification and its low noise level. Most portable dishwashers consume quite a lot of energy despite their small size. However, this is not the case of this particular dishwasher which, as you are about to discover, has numerous other useful features.
The dishwasher features a tall tub which can easily fit items with bizarre shapes in either one of the two racks. Compared with similar tall tub dishwashers, this unit features an extra 3″ of interior space. The extra large items are best placed on the lower rack while the plates and the bottles will sit comfortably on the upper rack. The dishwasher features a water filtration system with a removable filter. The tub is made of plastic (not the most durable choice) while the racks and tines are made of vinyl. The racks are not adjustable and they don’t have any extra baskets. The dishwasher has 3 main cycles: a normal cycle, a heavy cycle, and a one hour cycle. The heavy cycle lasts longer and is best suited for heavily soiled dishes. On the other hand, the 1-hour cycle delivers an impressive performance. The dishwasher also has a high-temperature wash option, ideal for cleaning baby bottles or glasses. It also has several other interesting options such as a 4-hour delay start, a heated dry option, and control lock. The dishwasher is estimated to consume about 295 kWh in a year, having an estimated yearly operating cost of $35, if it is used with an electric water heater, or $25 if it is used with a natural gas water heater.
Aside from its portability, the most impressive feature of this dishwasher is its Auto Soil Sensor that detects how dirty the dishes are and optimizes each cycle accordingly. After about 250 loads, the Auto soil sensor will automatically recalibrate the load in order to attain the highest level of performance. The tall tub design and the elegant finish makes it easy for one to find a place for the dishwasher. You can leave it in the kitchen, in a hallway or somewhere out of sight. The Whirlpool WDP350PAAB is also part of Whirlpool’s most quiet line of dishwashers, featuring a sound package and an excellent sound insulation which minimize the operating noise level to 55 dBa. Moreover, this dishwasher doesn’t just comply with the government’s efficiency standards, but it actually exceeds them, protecting the environment and helping you save money at the same time.
The portable dishwasher is 37 in. high, 26 1/2 in. deep and 24 1/8 wide. With the door open 90 degrees, the dishwasher is 49 1/2 deep. As you can see, it is very compact, so you should have no problems finding a place for it or constantly moving it throughout your kitchen, according to your needs. The dishwasher is available in either a black or a white finish.
As far as performance goes, this unit is very impressive for a portable dishwasher. Nevertheless, considering its $749.00 price tag, we were expecting a bit more. Adjustable racks, 2 more cycle options, and a stainless steel tub would have made this dishwasher a must-have item for any small kitchen. Nevertheless, as it is, we find it to be a tad expensive. For $750, you can find more efficient dishwashers, some of which might even be compact enough to fit in a small kitchen.
